What's News? Understanding the Media in An Era of Fake News, Biases and Twitter with Judy Muller
“Fake News.” “Alternative Facts.” “Post-Truth Era.” These are just a few of the phrases we’re confronting in the digital age. Amid the constant bombardment of information, how is a person to know what’s true and what’s fake (or something in between)? How sharp are your skills at ferreting out false information that comes your way via social media (Twitter and Facebook) and the press media? This two-hour course will provide some guidelines and handy tools to help you navigate the treacherous shoals of fake news. Attendees should come prepared to share personal experiences in confronting their own biases and, perhaps, moments when they were taken in by false information on Facebook or Twitter.
