Telluride Painting School | Observation & Imagination: Painting the Figure and the Natural World with Ying Li
Monday – Friday for two weeks | 8:30am – 12:30pm | $1,145 October 8 – 19, 2018 (Students need to supply required materials on their own, list coming soon.) An Intensive Figure and Landscape Painting Workshop with Ying Li. This intensive painting workshop is designed for both abstract and representational artists of all levels. Students will explore techniques and concepts in painting with an emphasis on individual development of style, theme and expression. Students will work from live models in interior arrangements and in the landscape, discovering how a basic image can be transformed into a personal statement through the process of painting and by engaging the artist’s imagination. The glorious natural surroundings of Telluride will serve as a perfect vehicle to explore the relationship between nature and the human figure. We will investigate various approaches to representational and abstract painting, and the metaphorical meaning in figure and landscape paintings. Students are encouraged to experiment with ideas and techniques with the purpose of developing a personal expression. The plastic principles developed through observational work will lead to exploration into the limitless possibilities of painting. Individual and group critiques and discussions will be held regularly, and focus will be given to each individual student in context of the shared experience of the class. Power point presentations of works from old masters and contemporary artists will be presented to complement studio and landscape projects in classes. Includes 24-hour access to the painting studio between class sessions, model fees, easels/gatorboards, and general studio supplies.
