Telluride Painting School | Breaking the Surface: The Primacy of Paint with Colleen Randall
Monday – Friday for two weeks | 9:00am – 1:00pm | $1,045 September 24 – October 5, 2018 (Students need to supply required materials on their own, list coming soon.) Painting is a search for who we are and what we love. The best painters discover themselves through the primacy of paint. In this two-week intensive, students will explore spatial depth and color, testing the boundaries between sensuous details and the overall unity of each painting, between the flat picture plane and the mysterious illusion of pictorial space. In light of examples taken from both historical and contemporary sources, we will examine various approaches to composition, color, and the handling of oil paint. In a sequence of multi-layered paintings, students will immerse themselves in a process of “finding their subject” that involves what is seen, remembered, known and imagined about the subject. Emphasis will be given to the joyful and passionate pursuit of color as a means to construct a painting and find meaning in a work of art. Includes 24-hour access to the painting studio between class sessions, model fees, easels/gatorboards, and general studio supplies.
