Story Making From Life: A Fiction Writing Workshop with Antonya Nelson

Friday – Sunday, September 9 – 11 | 9am-12pm | $225 tuition The process of story making is the process of lifting material from life and making it into art. In this three-day workshop, author Antonya Nelson guide students as they find story from autobiography, and then will supply participants with a series of steps that help to transform students’ work from personal anecdote to (one hopes!) sturdy and artful fiction. Students should bring a laptop, paper and pencil, or any other writing implements desired, as well as a few examples of personal experience that may be worked into a piece of fiction. Nelson is the author of four novels, including Bound (Bloomsbury, 2010) and seven short story collections, including Funny Once (Bloomsbury, 2014). Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, Esquire, Harper’s, Redbook and many other magazines, as well as in anthologies such asPrize Stories: the O. Henry Awards and Best American Short Stories. She is the recipient of a USA Artists Award in 2009, the 2003 Rea Award for Short Fiction, as well as NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships, and teaches in the Warren Wilson MFA Program, as well as in the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program. She lives in Telluride, Colorado and Houston, Texas.
