Rob Schultheis & Sam Levy Gala Artists Art Walk Opening Reception

Art Walk | The public Opening Reception is Thursday, January 7, 2016 with Rob Schultheis & Sam Levy. Rob Schultheis is the author of six books, including “The Hidden West” and “Fool’s Gold,” the latter about the changing face of his home town, Telluride, Colorado. Since 1984, Rob has covered the wars in Afghanistan for Time magazine and other periodicals, also freelancing as cameraman for the networks. Over the years, he has written for “The Washington Post,” “National Geographic Magazine,” and “Outside” magazine. Rob is also an accomplished painter. He is working on a new series of paintings and mixed media pieces that he hopes will serve as a doorway or window into the realm of magic hidden beneath the surface of our everyday world. ‘Woman gazing at the moon’ is one of the initial works in the series. Sam Levy Though he is a native Texan, Sam Levy received his BFA from the University of Maryland at College Park and his MFA in Painting from The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. Sam paints and draws the figure and landscape from direct perception. He prefers working with the same motif over an extended period of time. In this way he searches for and discovers pathways, forms, and relationships that he couldn’t have known at its outset. His work is an experience in time: a realization of a conversational journey made tangible in paint. The paintings are a sensual experience, both seen and felt. Sam studied with Bruce Gagnier, John Lees, Stanley Lewis, Graham Nickson and Foon Sham. He moved to New York City in 2003 and worked for the artist Ursula Von Rydingsvard as a sculptor’s assistant. He has traveled and worked in Europe and across the United States. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
