One-Day Glass Blowing Workshop for Beginners
High school students and adults can learn the basics of glass blowing at the torch. Using clear borosilicate rod and tubing with a propane and oxygen torch, you will learn to manipulate glass in the torch flame. This is also known as flameworking. You will learn to blow out ornaments, jars or small vessels. Workshop includes, safety instruction, flame adjustments, heat control and proper hand positions. Each student will learn to use all the necessary tools for glassblowing: graphite shaping tools, flaring tools, tweezers, hand torches and more. Chaiah Sullivan, master glassblower and owner of Unparalleled Glass, will offer demos with plenty of hands on practice for this fun filled class. This workshop encompasses manipulating hollow shapes and forms. No glass-blowing skill required. This is a beginner’s class! Limit five students per class, per day. Safety glasses will be provided. Each student will take their creation home with them once annealed. Tuition for either the Jan. 15 or 16 workshop is $100. Scholarships are available.
