Monoprinting & the Hand-Stitched Mark with Ilze Aviks | August 5 – 7
Create one-of-a-kind monoprints on cloth; then discover how stitching can transform designs by enhancing color, deepening space, and creating surprising textures. Students will produce their own unique cloth studies, layering transparent fabrics (think silk organza and cotton batiste) to reveal surprising depth, images and colors in their work. Through exploration and experimentation, students will discover that monoprinting is a great way to unblock when you are creatively stuck, presenting happy “accidents” and new visual ideas. Ilze’s processes are easily adapted to the home studio, and studies can be used as a jumping off point for new work…or sewn together to make a poetic “journal.” Non-toxic, water-soluble fabric pigments will be used. No previous experience is necessary. This is a Visiting Artist class, but cancellations may be made up to 14 days in advance in order to qualify for a refund (less a $25 administrative fee).
