Mastering Your Palette: Capturing & Creating Color with Karen Blair | July 1-3
Many painters have too many colors in their palette. This can be a hindrance to color mixing, resulting in colors that do not play well together. This intensive three-day workshop will teach all levels of artists how to master their color palette and how to make their paintings sing. Learn to exploit complimentary colors, use opposites, and get the most from grays and other neutrals as a foil to brighter colors. Examine the best ways to compose a painting, how to move into abstraction, and ways of painting more loosely, including how to simplify compositions and trust the viewer to fill in the details. This workshop will also cover exhibition topics, such as how to write an artist’s statement and searching out venues to show work. Open to acrylic and oil painters alike, participants will work in the studio from their own photographs (landscapes, still life, figures) and outside, if they wish. Each student will receive individualized instruction and guidance, including what artists to look to for inspiration. All participants will come away with a solid color palette and practical goals and tips to grow their painting practice. This is a Visiting Artist class, therefore cancellations must be made at least 45 days in advance in order to qualify for a refund (less a $25 administrative fee).
