Improvisation on Canvas with Kathy Kosins
Thursday | 10:00am – 1:00pm | $75 March 29, 2018 A painting clinic by renowned jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins. Guided by critically and nationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins, students in this workshop will participate in an “Improvisation On Canvas” clinic. They will paint to jazz music while focusing on freedom of expression in the abstract, using texture and colors to guide them. Several jazz artists of the Be Bop era… i.e. Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy, Miles, etc., will be featured as students paint totally from intuition. This is a mixed media class with all materials provided – acrylic, pastels, watercolor, canvas, etc. Students will be encouraged to “hear” in color and “listen” for shape inspiration. Modern abstractions and realistic works are both acceptable keeping in mind that this is a great learning tool for thinking outside the box and at the spur of the moment. Students will be asked to have no preconceived ideas before they start applying their medium to canvas. Previous painting experience is helpful but not required, as the workshop is meant to be an exercise in creativity and is open to students of all disciplines… art, theater, dance and music. Materials included. This is a Visiting Artist class, therefore cancellations must be made at least 45 days in advance in order to qualify for a refund (less a $25 administrative fee).
