Generation Wealth Film Screening

For 25 years photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles) has traveled the world, documenting the excesses of wealth and celebrity that have come to define our culture. In Generation Wealth she revisits many of her subjects as she investigates our desire for more. Underscoring the ever-increasing gap between haves and have-nots, her portraits reveal a focus on image over substance, where those unable to attain actual wealth settle for its trappings, no matter their ability to pay for it. Witnessing the boom/bust cycles of a titan of finance, a porn star, a bus driver, and a child beauty queen, Greenfield also turns the camera on herself to explore the reasons for her personal obsession with her subject matter, and the cost of pursuing excess for us all. Generation Wealth, simultaneously a deeply personal journey, rigorous historical essay, and raucously entertaining expose, bears witness to the global boom-bust economy, the corrupted American Dream and the human costs of capitalism, narcissism and greed. This event is a part of Telluride Education Foundation's Film & Speaker Series designed to engage and inspire community dialogue on social and emotional well-being for a lasting, positive impact on our community. All proceeds will go toward experiential learning and teacher support in the Telluride School District. • Screening Time: Film starts at 5:45pm, 106 minutes long followed by Q&A with Lauren Greenfield • Admission: Adults $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
