Don't Fear the Figure: Painting People & Portraits in Oil with Julee Hutchison | August 23 & 24
Capturing the figure in oil can be intimidating. Understanding the structure of the body and the face, creating luminous skin tones, relating clothing to the under structure of the body – these are all challenges that artists struggle with. In this two-day workshop, artist Julee Hutchison will guide students in painting both figures and faces in vibrant, honest ways, while also teaching the importance of composition, stroke, color, and edges. Students will focus on the figure one day and facial portraits the next day, however, students will be free to paint either the figure or the face according to their own interests. Individual attention will be provided to help each student achieve their goals. This is a great opportunity to step away from the landscape and explore the joy of figurative painting. Students should have some previous painting experience. Please refer to the materials list for a list of what to bring. Please also bring a lunch or substantial snack.
