Telluride Chamber Music Festival
The Telluride Chamber Music Festival has been bringing music to Telluride since 1973. This year they continue to bring you chamber music as it was originally intended, up close and personal! Their festival creates a spontaneous connection between audience and musicians that lifts the human spirit.
You are invited to take a break from your busy life and enjoy one of life's gentler pleasures by hearing chamber music at its best! Here is an overview of the schedule:
THURSDAY, AUGUST 7
"Picnic Concert in the Park"- Join us in the park for a casual evening of chamber music to kick off the season. Bring your own picnic for a special evening of music in Town Park. Picnic from 5:00 PM and the concert begins about 6:00 PM. Music by Borodin and Mozart. Tickets are FREE
"Casual Classics at Arroyo Wine Gallery"- Have a glass of wine, enjoy fine art and fine classical music performed by world class musicians. Mozart's dramatic and lyrical String Quintet in G Minor will be the featured work on the program. This is a rare chance to get "up close and personal" with world class musicians, and sit just a few feet away from a spectacular perforamance. 7- 8 pm at Arroyo Wine Gallery. Tickets are FREE
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8
"Too Intimate to be Played in Public" - Brahms, Borodin, and Dohnanyi." Experience classical chamber music's tender side, in a program for strings and piano performed by Roy Malan, Ian Scarfe, and other world class artists from the Telluride Chamber Music Festival. On the program are Brahms' lyrical Violin Sonata No. 1, Borodin's exotic String Quartet No. 2, and Dohnanyi's passionate Piano Quintet, his first published work. SUNDAY, AUGUST 10
"Too Intimate to be Played in Public" - Dvorak, Shostakovich, and Mozart." Experience classical chamber music's more tender and intimate side with the second concert of the Telluride Chamber Music Festival, featuring world class musicians. The program features Dvorak's Romantic Pieces, Shostakovich's hauntingly beautiful Piano Trio, and Mozart's grand and dramatic String Quintet in G Minor. "A Night at the Metropolitan"-Come join the Telluride Chamber Music Festival for a special event, "A Night at the Metropolitan", with Met simulcast star Allan Glassman. FRIDAY, AUGUST 15
"Free Children's Concert"-A special mid day event planned especially for our younger set (from pre-school through high school). Adults only admitted when accompanied by a child. Meet the musicians, see the instruments and learn more about music. Ice cream served after the concert. Show starts at 11 am at the Sheridan Opera House. Tickets are FREE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 17
"Too Intimate to be Played in Public" - Brahms, London, and Franck"-Join the Telluride Chamber Music Festival for their third concert of music "too intimate to be played in public". The program will feature lyrical and passionate works by Johannes Brahms and Cesar Franck, as well as California composer Larry London's "Starry Nights, Doggy Days."
