WHAT CRAZINESS HAPPENS WHEN WATER RUNS DRY?  Pay attention California (and Colorado)!   This hilarious satirical musical comedy is a tale of greed, corruption, love and, mostly, revolution. In the not-so-distant future, when all of the world's water has dried up, a rapacious corporation charges people for the most basic of human needs. Deciding he's had enough, a romantic but bumbling revolutionary hero rouses the people against the forces of evil. URINETOWN is a wonderful Tony Award winning musical romp. Filled with comedy it produces many moments of unbridled laughter, fun for the whole family! Rated PG

According to Director Sasha Sullivan, “Cat Lee-Covert & Caroline Grace Moore , two of our actors brought the show to the attention of Telluride Theatre’s Artistic Sub-Committee, who meets to decide what we’ll do for the season.  It is truly a musical written for Telluride - hilarious, with political undertones - a satire that spoofs the environmental movement, greedy corporations and theatre itself.  With amazing music, a genius comedic script, how could I say no?  I have fallen more in love with it each day, and we are so excited to share this oh so relevant play with our audience.”

URINETOWN HISTORY - The success of URINETOWN seems as unlikely as the show's title. It was the first Fringe Festival show ever to make it to Broadway.  One of the few truly original musicals not based on existing source material, the show first premiered at the New York Fringe Festival in 1999. It was an instant hit with audiences, and the show was picked up for an Off-Broadway run in 2001. The reviews were wildly enthusiastic, and the show was transferred to Broadway's Henry Miller Theater where it opened on September 20, 2001. URINETOWN was nominated for an impressive 10 Tony Awards, winning for Best Book, Score, and Direction. It also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical. (taken from
