Telluride Mushroom Festival Announces 2012 Lineup of Events

Workshops, forays, tastings and medicinal beers with World Renowned Mycologists at this year’s festival- August 16-19, 2012

(Telluride, CO) July 24, 2012 – The 31st Annual Telluride Mushroom Festival is looking forward to another exciting year from August 16-19, 2012. For over 30 years, Telluride has hosted this unique festival of all things fungal in the high San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado.

This festival attracts a range of mushroom inclinations- from culinary to scientific to just plain curious.  Here all lovers of mushrooms find themselves in a mountain paradise among others with expertise and passion for these delicacies.  Activities range from mushroom lectures given by the most knowledgeable of experts, to cooking (and eating) mushrooms, and guided hikes with instruction on how to find the freshest and safest mushrooms.

Special this year TMF is proud to present a rare and special Telluride Mushroom Festival Benefit.  The day will begin with a foray with world-renowned mushroom foray leader and author Gary Lincoff and will finish with a specially prepared multi-course wild mushroom meal from world-renowned chef Lisa Dahl at the Opus Hut high in the San Juan Mountains near Ophir, CO.  This event is limited to 20 people and guests must register in advance.   Cost is $285 per person and includes a signed copy of Lisa Dahl's most recent book.

Friday August 17th is our Annual Chef Cook-off, a lively event featuring locally and nationally renowned chefs competing for the coveted toke.  A panel of judges including authors and chefs Honga Im (Honga's Lotus Petal) and Lisa Dahl (Dahl and DiLuca and Cocina Rustic).  Started by Telluride's culinary icon Chef Bud, this event has nearly doubled in size due to its popularity. The event is free to the public and sponsored by the Wilkinson Public Library and Delilah LLC.

Telluride Mushroom Festival is producing medicinal red ale that will be on tap throughout the festival at Smuggler Joe's Brewery in Telluride, CO. In a joint effort with the TMF, Smuggler Joe's Brewery and Mushroom Mountain Liberty  are joining forces to make an immune enhancing brew.  This hand-crafted "Mycobrew" contains Reishi, Turkeytail and Birch Polypore, all well-known for immune enhancing characteristics and health benefits. Tradd Cotter, owner of Mushroom Mountain, will be presenting at Smuggler Joe's Brewery on Thursday, August 16th at 6pm to inform the public about the special Mycobrew process and the health benefits of the healing Fungi.  A portion of sales of this beer will benefit the Telluride Mushroom Festival.

Also new this year is the Telluride Fun-Gals Benefit, featuring a feminine perspective of myco-culture.  Featured women of the event include Kat Harrison, Katrina Blair, Maya Elson, and Linnea Gilman.  Katrina Blair (Turtle Lake Refuge of Durango, CO) will prepare fresh, wild-harvested appetizers.  Kat Harrison will speak on the traditions and research she has brought into popular culture. Maya Elson will talk about Radical Mycology and the importance of the mycelial web.  Linnea Gilman will speak on the continuation of higher education in Mycology.  There will be music provided by Lizzy Plotkin, a fiddle player from Crested Butte, CO. This event is Friday August 17th and costs $25/person to benefit the Telluride Mushroom Festival.
