Vagabond Opera, a Bohemian neo-cabaret gypsy rock plays the Sheridan Opera House Thursday, March 14. They will be joined by opening support Dirty Bourbon River Show, an original ensemble out of New Orleans that blends gypsy, brass, circus and rock music.

Tickets for this unique night of music are $17 general admission on the floor and $22 reserved balcony with a $3 ticketing fee.

The Washington Post described Vagabond Opera, a six-piece band based out of Portland, Ore., as “a band of ceaseless charisma, boundless energy, impeccable musicianship and more than a little touch of both the naughty and exotic.

Featuring four singers (two operatically trained), two cellos, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, double bass and drums, this Bohemian neo-cabaret gypsy rock ensemble plays and combination of cabaret, burlesque, tango, Balkan beats, Klezmer, rock, Arab music, Parisian hot jazz, and yes, opera.

The band sings in 15 languages and mixes their genre-defying original tunes with covers made famous by such artists as Jacques Brel, Tom Waits, Raymond Scott and Edith Piaf, all performed with theatrics, flair and an old-world charm.

Vagabond Opera is at the vanguard of a growing popularity in the Neo-cabaret phenomenon and through their theatrical performances and eclectic repertoire brings the artistic spirit of Portland, Ore. to the world performing across the U.S. and in Europe. They’ve also played regularly on NPR and have shared stages and players with Pink Martini, DeVotchka, the Decembrists and the Oregon Symphony.

While in Telluride, Vagabond Opera will share the stage with opening support Dirty Bourbon River Show, a New Orleans ensemble know for its theatrical pairing of modern day music and old-world gypsy music.

Since forming in early 2009, the Dirty Bourbon River show has released five studio albums and earned a solid reputation for their tight, diverse sound.
