Telluride, Colo, April 9, 2012 – Telluride’s young theatrical talent will once again be on display this May with the Sheridan Arts Foundation’s Young People’s Theater production of “Stuart Little” May 4-6, featuring 27 actors in grades 3 through 5.
The play is a creative take on EB White’s classic children’s tale of a boy mouse born to human parents, though in the YPT version the main character is a tiny boy who resembles a mouse in every way. SAFYPT Artistic Director Jennifer Julia chose to adapt the play in such a way to better connect the story with her young thespians.
“Because Stuart isn’t an actual mouse, but a boy who is different, the story becomes one that most kids can relate to,” Julia said. “This is the theme we explore in our musical: how it feels to be different and how we handle those feelings.”
Weighty topics aside, the play, like all YPT productions, is chock full of catchy song and dance numbers, colorful characters, talking animals, amazing costumes and hilarious jokes.
Julia is joined by Music Director Bob Callendale Israel, Choreographer, and YPT alum, Lyndia Peralta and Set Designer Buff Hooper. Local artist Sue Hobby also lent her talent with costume design.
“Stuart Little” will perform at the historic Sheridan Opera House on Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m. each night. Tickets are reserved seating, $12 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under, lap children are free.
