Telluride Blues & Brews Brings The Congress For The Free Sunset Blues Concert
Sunset Blues Concert in Mountain Village, Sunset Plaza - September 11, 2013
(Telluride, CO) September 4, 2013 - Just another reason to attend the 20th annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival! In addition to jaw dropping scenery, performances by the finest blues, rock, gospel, and soul artists and more than 150 brews from over 50 of the best microbreweries in the southwest and beyond, the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival is excited to announce another free concert to kick-off the weekend's festivities with the Sunset Blues Concert, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013. The event features Denver Based band, The Congress and takes place at the Mountain Village Sunset Plaza, just a short and scenic Gondola ride away from the Town of Telluride. The event and Gondola ride are free and open to the public.
The Congress is naturally compared to many names and styles of years gone by. But drawing such comparisons is, in many respects, a misguided endeavor. Misguided not because you'd be wrong, but because you'd be missing the beautiful point - The Congress are a natural evolution of more than 60 years of purely American music. With a spirit rooted just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and now calling Denver - "The Queen City of the West" - their home, they've got enough soul, grit, and have spent enough time in the woodshed and on the road to call them pretty much whatever you want. But whatever words you think you need to describe their contribution to the American music tradition - save your breath. The Congress play Rock & Roll.
With their recently released new EP "The Loft Tapes," The Congress's new EP contains 7 soul covers recorded in an old Masonic Temple in Berthoud, CO. Scott Lane of The Congress recorded and mixed the tracks on an 8 channel reel-to-reel tape machine with the help of engineer Logan Muckler. The EP pays tribute to the music and recording style that has influenced the band's development. Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Dr. John) has signed on to master the album which has been released in both digital and vinyl formats.
The event takes place rain or shine and is sponsored by Telluride Ski Resort, Sierra Nevada Brewing, TMVOA, and the Town of Mountain Village.
The 20th annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will also features headliners The Black Crowes, Jim James, and Melissa Etheridge. Additional musicians booked to play include Gary Clark Jr., John Hiatt & Combo, Booker T. Jones, Mickey Hart Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Anders Osborne, Otis Taylor Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Allen Stone, ZZ Ward, The New Mastersounds, The Bright Light Social Hour, The Relatives, Selwyn Birchwood Band, Kim Churchill, James Bay, Low Volts, and more.
