What's Going On This Week?

Winter has returned in full force. It’s snowing heavily now and it’s supposed to keep up through the weekend. Although ski season is winding down, there are still plenty of great events going on to keep you busy. On Friday, head to Club Red where Karl Denson is live with his band for a night of funk and jazz. On Friday and Saturday, the Friends of the Library’s book sale returns at Wilkinson Public Library, so make your way there to support your local public library. Take advantage of the mountain through the week and then starting Wednesday through Saturday, Telluride Theatre presents BURLESQUE at the Sheridan Opera House. This annual fundraiser will feature dancing, comedy acrobatics and more. Finally, on Thursday be sure to stop by the Nugget Theater for the Backcountry Film Festival which benefits the Colorado Mountain Club’s Backcountry Snowsports Initiative. Enjoy an incredible slate of winter films and learn about BSI’s recreation advocacy, mapping projects and more. Check out more on each event below!

Burlesque:  Telluride Theatre presents BURLESQUE. Our annual fundraiser resurrects the raucous and raunchy variety shows of Telluride’s vaudeville era, featuring dancing, comedy, acrobatics and beautiful local women. Two different shows! THE HOUSE OF SHIMMY SHAKE presents HOLLYWOOD BURLESQUE: In a world of the silver screen and the walk of fame, we celebrate all things silver screen and shout in our pasties... Hooray for Hollywood!

Backcountry Film Festival: The 12th annual Backcountry Film Festival comes to Telluride’s Nugget Theater to benefit the Colorado Mountain Club’s Backcountry Snowsports Initiative. Immerse yourself in a night of films that capture the spirit of winter. Adventure, environment and climate, youth outdoors, ski culture- you’ll find it all in this award winning lineup. Produced by the Boise-based nonprofit, Winter Wildlands Alliance, the Backcountry Film Festival is renowned for its mix of professional and grassroots films combining epic powder shots with a twist of environmental activism. The event proceeds support the Colorado Mountain Club’s Backcountry Snowsports Initative (BSI) – your voice for human-powered winter recreation!
