What's Going On This Week?

Sunrise 77

The snow has been piling up and we have been putting this mountain to good use! This winter season is already one for the books, and there are lots of events happening to keep the winter excitement up! This week is filled with tons of great music and art, and we couldn’t be more excited. Head to Club Red on Friday to see an intimate performance by Jackie Green & Anders Osborne, a show you won’t want to miss. If you’re still looking to get funky, head to the Sheridan Opera House on Saturday to celebrate Telluride natives Niceness new album release. Also happening on Saturday is Fly Dance, an all-male contemporary dance company from Houston consisting of seven talented young men. If you’re wanting to explore your own artistic side, be sure to check out Painting From Within with Robert Weatherford on Tuesday at the Ah Haa School for the Arts. You’ll paint your internal landscape and explore your artistic voice with this drop-in course. Check out more on each event below:

Jackie Green & Anders Osborne Live:  Beyond The Groove is pleased to announce 'An Acoustic Evening with Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne live at Club Red. They are set to perform an intimate acoustic show at Telluride's Club Red. Armed with a persuasive voice, a vivid songwriting skill and an instinctive mastery of several instruments, Jackie Greene has carved out a unique musical niche synthesizing his deep affinity for American roots styles into his own timeless, personally-charged music while also engaging in a series of collaborative musical adventures that have teamed him with several notable veterans.

Niceness Album Release Party: Niceness celebrates the release of their new album "Sunshine" with a show at the Sheridan Opera House. Hailing from Telluride, Colorado, Niceness is a positively grounded roots reggae band blending a mix of soulful reggae, dancehall, Latin, hip hop and funk. Tickets are $15 GA on the floor and $25 reserved in the balcony.

Fly Dance: Labeled an artistic phenomenon, FLY crosses street dance with classical choreographic principles. Their technique is hip hop-very creative, gymnastic, and highly masculine. FLY is an all-male contemporary dance company from Houston known for its high-energy performances with clever staging to a variety of music including classical, jazz, pop, hip hop, experimental, drumming, and live sound effects. Reserved Seating Show: $28 adults, $20 students/children

Painting from Within: $50 + $20 materials* *The $20 materials fee includes all supplies needed for the class. This class is for students of all levels who wish to render their internal landscapes or the movement of their spirit. The idea is for the student to be able to construct a painting both physically as well as conceptually, whether still life, landscape, abstraction, or other. Using acrylics, students will learn the aesthetic, emotional, and spatial properties of the various colors and how to use them to convey work from the soul rather than the intellect.
