Thinking Snowy Thoughts

Bsp Winter 23

Weather forecasts are threatening ‘winter storm warnings’ throughout today and the rest of the week, which means ski season is knocking on our door!

It’s always fun to see how the ski resort has been preparing for the upcoming season while the rest of us were busying ourselves with sunny, summer activities. You can read Telluride Ski Resort's press release here, but I’ve also summed up the highlights for you below. Take a look at what’s new for the 2010/11 winter ski season:

In the spring of 2010, the Telluride Ski Resort installed a new bridge and staircase to where Gold Hill ridge meets the left shoulder of the spectacular Palmyra Peak. Heliqwest, a Canadian Helicopter company, airlifted two steel staircases and a bridge over the ski resort to its final resting place—the span between Gold Hill Chutes 8 and 9.

Following the Palmyra Peak and Revelation Bowl (2008/09 season) additions, the ski resort also undertook an aggressive cleanup program this past summer of long-skied tree areas. Old favorites as well as new tree runs will be ready for this winter’s powder hounds.

Snowmaking is getting some more muscle, as pumping capacity is being doubled too.

Every morning we jump out of bed in anticipation, hoping to wake up to the first big snowy dump of the season. Wherever you are reading from we hope you’re watching Telluride’s winter forecast too, planning, plotting, and getting excited for the good times this season is sure to deliver.
