Joe, Buddy, Bonnie, Taj in the house of blues

Blues Crowd

As the last big hoorah of the summer season, Telluride Blues & Brews holds a special place in many local's hearts. It often seems that the festival promoters work hand-in-hand with Mother Nature, resulting in Indian summer conditions. And nothing complements sunshine in September like 50+ breweries sampling fresh brews during the Grand Tasting on Saturday. (From noon to 3 pm, get there on time!) Top that off with three days of incredible talent, and it's easy to see why Blues & Brews is a must. This summer, Blues & Brews is September 18, 19, and 20.

The folks over at Blues announced the 2009 line-up last week to much fanfare. This is one loaded festival weekend. Buddy Guy AND Taj Majal, need I say more?! Headliners include the legendary Joe Cocker and Bonnie Raitt, and Umphrey's McGee. And last but not least, one of my favorite singer/songwriters that you haven't heard of - Jackie Greene takes the stage on Friday. For a complete line-up, check out the festival's website at

Air fare is really good right now into Montrose, Grand Junction and Cortez. For those within driving distance, the San Juan Scenic Byway is worth the journey. Packages are available online now. See you at Telluride's house of blues.
