How to Blues and Brews
I just checked the weather forecast again for fear of bad news, but no. The weatherman is still predicting nothing but sunny skies and 70’s all weekend. Telluride is batting 100 percent, so sport your cowboy hats and autumn dresses and enjoy a stacked stage lineup with a backdrop of gorgeous fall colors.Besides rockin’ music and tasty microbrews, here’s what not to miss: 1. Kick off the festivities tonight at the Sunset Blues Concert in the Mountain Village Sunset Plaza, with a FREE performance by the Gold Kings and Matt Schofield. Pack a picnic, watch the sun set and cheers to the start of the 17th Annual Telluride Blues and Brews Festival. 2. Saturday's headliner, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band. What makes their stage presence so special? “As separate bandleaders and musicians, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are phenomenal, and each has been cited time and again as Telluride Blues and Brews fans’ favorite acts in the years they’ve appeared on this stage. Together? Words fail. But let’s try with a literal and musical marriage that is nothing short of divine. Derek Trucks’ slide guitar playing is second to none. Susan Tedeschi’s vocals can make men and women. ‘They are two of the best young blues musicians in the world. Tedeschi, whose singing never ceases to amaze, mixed with Trucks’ jaw-dropping solos left everyone in the crowd breathless,’ says one blues fan.” –Adapted from the 2010 Telluride Blues and Brews festival information booklet. 3. Back Porch Lager, the signature brew for this year’s Blues and Brews Fest. The director of the festival, Steve Gumble, and crew, traveled to Sierra Nevada’s Brew Camp this summer and the result if 70 kegs of drinkably delicious autumn ale. Who, or what, are you most excited for this festival weekend?
