Holiday Prelude 2015

The holiday spirit is truly alive in our little box canyon.  With storefronts decked out in all of the holiday's fineries and streaming white lights crowning Main Street, a glow ushers in all those warm and fuzzy feelings that are quinessential in setting the holiday mood.

The Holiday Prelude, December 2 - 13, is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.  The entire family will find festivities to enjoy during the two week long celebration.  Noel Night, the kickoff to the Prelude, is quickly followed up with the lighting of Telluride's Ski Tree, a Christmas tree constructed of recycled skis, which will be lit by Telluride legend Senior Mahoney and wife Twyla.  This spectacular lighting will happen on December 5, followed by a ski burn, honoring the Norse god Ullr, Patron Saint of Skiers.  Festivities will continue throughout the weekend with cookie decorating, card making, Old Fashioned Christmas at Schmid Ranch and a Holiday Arts Bazaar at the Elks Lodge.

Mountain Village will take the lead on the Holiday Prelude the following week with festivities beginning at the Oak Street Gondola station where the gondola will be transformed into a Trip to the North Pole on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12 from 3-6pm.  Santa will be awaiting children of all ages for their arrival in the Heritage Plaza in Mountain Village, where they can tell Santa what they wnat for Christmas, make an ornament with one of his elves, and enjoy free hot chocolate.  The North Pole will feature none other than the North Pole Express, a free train ride where both children and adults alike can enjoy a free dazzled train ride throughout the Mountain Village to enjoy all of the lights and decorations that will set the Village aglow.

An event to not be missed, North Pole on Ice, will feature a professional ice skating performance that will feature national and international ice skating medalists.  The performance will take place outside the Madeline Hotel and Residences on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12 at a 2pm matinee performance and 6pm evening performance.  This special event is a true sight to behold!

Of course, for those that still have some Christmas shopping to do, the merchants of Mountain Village will be hosting Jingle Jam.  Take advantage of shopping discounts, raffles, specials and giveaways on Friday, December 11.  The Franz Klammer Lodge will provide an Angel Baskets charity drive drop-off for donations and will be offering free drinks in their lodge on Friday and Saturday from 4-7pm.

Much more fun continues on Saturday, December 12 with free sledding and skating, as well as an opportunity to visit Frosty and the Grinch from 3-5pm at the Madeline Hotel and Residences.  The Madeline will also be hosting their Annual Ugly Holiday Sweater Party with a roller rink flashback at the Ice Rink from 7-9pm, tunes brought to you by DJ Soul Atomic.  Parents can take advantage of the free Kid's Night Out dropp of from 7-9:30pm at the Telluride Conference Center with holiday movie classics, games, and snacks for ages 5 and up.
