First Big Snow of the Season

The first big snowfall of the year always creates a buzz around town. Anticipation for opening  day of the ski resort heightens dramatically and conversations around town shift to what are the best new ski boots and powder boards.

This exciting shift is happening as we speak, prompted by Wednesday night’s storm that took us all by surprise.  An abundance of snow fell and covered entire runs of the ski area and even stuck on the trees down in town. The ski area is reporting 4 inches at mid mountain. Its official, the countdown to ski season is on (the Telluride Ski Resort opens November 24)!

In addition to the elation felt by many diehard skiers around town, Fall snowstorms also create some of the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable. Snow covered peaks contrasted with golden aspens.  Words don’t do it justice so take a look for yourself. All photos are by Ryan Bonneau, taken Thursday, October 6.

It sure is beatiful in Telluride at the moment, so book a fall escape today or start planning your winter vaction now.
