Allegiant Air 15 Days of Telluride: Day 14, Historic Tours

IMG 4977 M

With Allegiant flying from Phoenix, AZ and Oakland, San Francisco, CA this winter, travelers might ask what they can look forward to enjoying during their visit to the Box Canyon. Look no further than our 15 days of Telluride, a daily description of what Allegiant travelers can do during their winter vacation. Day 14: Historic Tours.

Go Back in Time with Telluride Historic Tours:

All it takes is a walk down Colorado Avenue (Main Street in Telluride) for guests to see the role history has played in our small community. Like a scene out of the old west, Telluride's main street has maintained much of the look it held during the days of mining. And quite a colorful and storied history it has had.

The infamous Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank right on Main Street and the town itself was divided by a "shady side" and a "sunny side" due not only to the one side of town having less sun than the other but also to the red light district and an area known as Popcorn Alley.

And then there was the transisiton from a mining town to a ski resort in the 70s that changed the course of history making the town what it is today. Of course, between these two eras lies a wonderful story. Head on up to the Telluride Historical Museum and take a tour of the original hospital turned historical archive or book a tour with local historian Ashley Boling to find out more.
