Alta Lakes Observatory
At timberline, Alta Lakes Observatory is nestled beneath the 13,000 foot Silver Mountain and Palmyra Peaks. Surrounded by National Forest on a remote site next to one of the pristine Alta Lakes, wildflowers, waterfalls, streams, and a variety of wildlife abound.
This spectacular setting is 13 miles from Telluride by state highway and unimproved mountain road (OK for 2-wheel drive vehicles during summer). Adjacent to the Telluride Ski Area's new expansion, winter guests ski or snowshoe in: or may obtain transport by our snowcat to the Lodge. A back-country skier's paradise, this remote location with its breathtaking scenery will truly be a memory you won't forget. At the end of their stay, winter guests can either be brought to the ski runs or to the bottom of Alta road to meet with their own transportation.
Special Events
In the summer, Alta is the perfect location for small weddings (up to 75), family retreats, and small conferences. Across the lake, lies a beautiful high mountain meadow; perfect for marriage ceremonies and accessible by car, or a short row across the lake in a canoe! The drive is spectacular and the exquisite mountain scenery is totally yours to enjoy. The lodge is equipped with a modern kitchen or, better yet, let us provide the meals for you!
Telluride Kitchen is Telluride's most established catering company. Exquisitely prepared and presented gourmet food for 2 to 400. All foods are freshly prepared and we prefer to use organic produce, poultry and meats, and support our local farmers.
