Moderate to Difficult - Seven miles round trip plus driving on dirt road to trail head. Access is along Hwy 145 about 20 minutes south of Telluride. Take the turn for Trout Lake, follow the road past the lake for 1.5 miles and look out for Forest Service Road #627. Vehicle with some clearance recommended. Follow FS #627 for multiple switchbacks until you reach a USFS sign and parking area - this is the trailhead.
