Surrounding Areas A beautiful campground area located at 11,000 feet that is generally snow-free by late June. Alta Lakes Rd. is 6 miles south of Telluride off Hwy. 145. The campground is 5 miles up a rugged dirt road at 11,000 feet. Open late June to late September. Undesignated sites, 7-day limit, 2 vault toilets. Free.
