Restructuring Taking Shape at Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization
Management Services Agreement inked with Telluride Tourism Board
Matt Skinner in as Chief Operating Officer
The Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization (TMRAO) announced recently the first steps toward positioning itself for the future of regional air service development. The organization signed a management services agreement with the Telluride Tourism Board to oversee TMRAO operations, including personnel supervision and administration, strategic planning, fundraising and its marketing efforts.
“The two entities have worked closely in the past, ultimately with the same goal,” said Michael Martelon President and CEO of the Telluride Tourism Board. “This partnership will give the destination the collaborative strength to build momentum for existing inbound markets as well as develop a better awareness regionally of the economic benefits of both the Telluride and Montrose Regional Airports.”
In addition, TMRAO welcomed Matt Skinner as Chief Operating Officer working with Martelon through the management services agreement. Skinner brings over a decade of resort industry experience to the organization that includes past positions on the boards of the Durango Air Task Force and TMRAO.
“We are thrilled to have such a dynamic leader join the TMRAO team,” said TMRAO Chairman Dirk DePagter. “Matt has a strong understanding of our regional community, the Telluride destination and our core markets that will translate to success for the organization.”
Most recently, Skinner was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Telluride Ski & Golf Resort where he collaborated with the TMRAO board and team to market the destination and improve air service into the region. During his tenure at Telluride Ski Resort, Skinner and his team were recognized with three National Ski Areas Association Best Overall Marketing awards and saw record visits. He was recently recognized with an Industry Leadership Award from Ski Area Management magazine.
As COO of TMRAO, Skinner will focus on air guarantee and risk mitigation programs, airline revenue and yield management, and developing additional service, partners and funding. Skinner will also have the benefit of former Executive Director Scott Stewart’s history with the organization through an anticipated independent consultant agreement after the first of the year.
“Air service is a critical component of our destination’s long-term success and regional economic sustainability,” said Skinner. “I look forward to building on the existing accomplishments of the organization, and working with the Telluride Tourism Board on these efforts.”

About the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization
TMRAO exists to stimulate local economic development by attracting and retaining air service to the Montrose and Telluride region. This is done mainly through revenue guarantees or other risk mitigation partnerships. Without a risk mitigation partnership, most commercial airlines would not fly into the region at the level necessary to sustain the region’s tourism-driven economy. The Colorado Department of Transportation estimates the total economic activity impact to the region from air service to the Montrose and Telluride airports is more than $470 million annually. Nestled within Southwest Colorado’s dramatic San Juan Mountains, Telluride, Colorado, (elevation: 8,750 ft.) is known for its world-class alpine skiing, awe-inspiring landscapes and vibrant summer festival season. The former mining town lies in a box canyon, surrounded on all three sides by 14,000-foot peaks, providing the ideal environment for hiking, mountain biking, trail running and other outdoor activities.
