TMVOA: Telluride Tourism Board Group and Conference Updates

~ For Immediate Release ~ Telluride to Host 2013 Colorado Governor's Tourism Conference ~ The Telluride Tourism Board (TTB) team celebrated the end of record breaking summer months with the announcement that the Colorado Governor's Tourism Conference will take place in Mountain Village from October 2-4, 2013. The announcement was made by Senator Al White at the 2012 conference held in Steamboat Springs, CO with over 300 Colorado tourism industry professionals, many cheering about the opportunity to visit Telluride next fall. The group & conference sales team has been diligently working to host the conference in Telluride over the past two years. The application process involved a lengthy RFP response which was one of many reviewed by board members of the Colorado Tourism Office. In addition to the announcement, the Telluride Tourism Board was recognized with the Outstanding Marketing Program award for the 2012 Summer of Love campaign that contributed to occupancy rates that, for the first time, exceeded the core winter months. 2012 Group Program Accomplishments The announcement of the Governor's Conference caps off a successful 2012 group sales and marketing program. This year, more than 10 conferences utilized our community such as the Colorado Library Consortium which brought over 300 participants in September, the Alpine Plastic Surgeonswho joined us for skiing and professional development, and the SPINCon Professional Meeting PlannersNetwork which executed a cutting-edge industry event in July. In addition to conference business, the group sales team sourced many social gatherings and events such as reunions and weddings, which contributed to the best summer season Telluride has seen in years. The TTB estimates the 2012 group sales total economic impact to be approximately $2,000,000, bringing over 1500 visitors and generating a 40% increase in revenue. Telluride is gaining traction from national meeting and event organizers. Team Effort The TTB and TMVOA strategy to develop a strong, qualified team behind the group sales efforts has come to fruition and is the driving force behind recent accomplishments. The program is led by Todd Gehrke, a 17 year veteran within the event sales industry, with a Certification in Meeting Management which is the senior accreditation level from Meeting Planners International. Todd was recently recognized as one of the Top 40 Industry Professionals of 2012 by Connect Magazine and awarded the Society of Incentive Travel Executives Southeast Chapter Presidents Award. Sarah McLean joined the team this year as Association Group Sales Manager and brings over 10 years of groups and hospitality experience to the team. Most recently, Sarah managed group sales for the Durango Area Tourism Office. The team is rounded out by Mackenzie Hollis, an event professional relocated from Texas, who currently manages the social and recreational markets as Group Sales Associate. 2013 Highlights The TTB looks forward to welcoming the following groups in 2013: -January 18-27 Society of Independent Gas Marketers of America - 200 participants -July 25-28 Precision Metalforming Association - 150 participants -August 8-11 Telluride No Barriers Summit - 600 participants -October 2-4 CO Governors Conference - 500 participants Utilize Our Resources The Group Sales Team would like to connect with the local Mountain Village residential and business community to explore event and conference opportunities.
