Telluride announces Mountain Town Get Down Schedule

This party-filled weekend to be packed with music and events

TELLURIDE, Colorado (Feb. 14, 2014) – Telluride Ski Resort will be celebrating the end of winter and heating things up for spring with the Mountain Town Get Down taking place March 28-30, 2014. Live performances from the national reggae acts of John Brown’s Body and See-I will be paired with music by local Telluride artists who will keep folks entertained while enjoying sun, goggle tans and good vibes.

“This event is a way for locals and destination guests alike to celebrate the end of an incredible season,” stated Brad Larsen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The Mountain Town Get Down will bring vibrancy to the Mountain Village core and it’s a great way to celebrate spring in American’s best ski town.”

The weekend will kick off on Friday, March 28 with happy hour at Tomboy Tavern featuring local act, Lily von Schtupp. The following day will feature free live music in the Mountain Village core from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Telluride local band, TriCo, will perform, followed by See-I at 2:30 p.m. and wrapping up with John Brown’s Body at 4:30 p.m. Sunday’s activities will once again resurrect the Bikini Slalom from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with the Gorrono Ranch Luau from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with local reggae band BREDREN.

Forming almost 20 years ago in Boston, John Brown’s Body starting playing music steeped in traditional vibes but incorporating elements from other genres to create a distinctly unique American reggae. The band toured nationally writing songs that used the vocabulary of reggae to express their own experiences gaining fans and influencing the scene along the way. Taking their music ever forward John Brown’s Body continues to be an authority in the American reggae scene with their Future Roots Movement music.

See-I quickly became a fixture of Washington DC’s burgeoning Reggae scene after forming in the late 1980’s. From the Caribbean originally, the two brothers Rootz and Zeebo, found their way to the nation’s capital where they met Eric Hilton and went on to record, tour, and play with Thievery Corporation.  See-I soon coalesced into one of the greatest live bands the city has ever seen playing a regular Wednesday night gig at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. Their unique blend of classic roots reggae with a solid blend of funk and soul continues to rock dance floors today.
