Telluride Arts is proud to host 52 Wheels, and art happening by Flair Robinson at the Stronghouse Gallery, Opening Thursday October 6th from 5pm – 8pm.
Artist Statemen - “52 Wheels” is a show about running wild through the night, on October 31st. It's about the smell of cotton candy, hot buttered popcorn and the leaves whirling 'round you like a Tilt-a Whirl. It's about the feeling that you get when you've just shot off your last bottle rocket (and the cops are coming) and it's about the color of the wrapper, on your last Sugar Daddy (in the bottom of your Halloween bag) in 1967. Put it all together and you have a show about nostalgia, color and an unrequited love for all things that spin.
Artist Bio - Flair Robinson is a self-taught mixed media mosaic and assemblage artist working primarily with ceramic tile, hand-cut glass, and recycled junk. She is first and foremost a colorist and is fascinated by the endless combinations of color. Flair is constantly seeking new, different, and exciting color variations like those found in early American folk art, vintage road signs, vintage ephemera and advertising from the 1940's and 1950's.
Flair is branching out in her work by creating art that serves no other purpose than to be just art, her past work has been primarily functional in nature. She continues to create painted and embellished pieces which express political and local humor, her work is in a constant state of evolution. Flair Robinson's studio is housed in the historic Stronghouse building in the heart of downtown Telluride, Colorado.
