Telluride Arts: First Thursday Telluride Art Walk, Feb. 6

Telluride Art Walk

The First Thursday Art Walk is a festive celebration of the arts in downtown Telluride for art lovers, community and friends. Seventeen venues host receptions from 5pm-8pm to introduce their new exhibitions and artists.  A free Art Walk Map offers a self-guided tour that can be used at any time to find galleries that are open most days.  Listen to Open Art Radio on KOTO from 12-1pm on first Thursdays to hear interviews with the artists. Maps are available at participating venues and at the Telluride Arts offices located in the Stronghouse Studios + Gallery at 283 South Fir Street.

This juried exhibition will feature fresh, innovative, new work by a large pool of regional artists in all media: painting, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, photography, printing, fiber, metals, and more. At 7pm, juror Amy Kimberly will announce the "Best of Show" winners and votes will be counted for the "People's Choice Award." Join us!

Fine art gallery and wine bar, featuring renowned artists from Colorado and the four corners region, and around the country.  

The gallery specializes in southwest contemporary realism, in painting, photography, and mixed media on the walls as well as bronze, steel, and clay sculpture.  Arroyo hosts monthly show openings and receptions, and the gallery is open late at night year 'round for guests to enjoy both the art, and also over 100 fine wines by the glass and small plate appetizers and desserts.

Nancy Anderson |  Seeker

 Nancy Anderson presents Seeker, and exhibit on the iconography, symbolic nature and lure of the heart. The show is part of Anderson’s ongoing attempt to express how we feel in our soul, which is directly intertwined with our most precious organ, the heart. Nancy is a self taught artist, craftswoman and teacher, and founded Sweet Bird Studio (now located in Ridgeway, CO) in 1988 and has had a successful career ever since.

Featured Artist: Adam Carlos


Gold Mountain Gallery is pleased to introduce Adam Carlos, who recently relocated to Telluride from Nashville. A second-generation artist, Adam specializes in highly detailed, exquisite graphite portraiture and landscape drawings. Because of Adam’s ability to capture the true personality of his subject, his portraits are cherished by a nationwide clientele. In addition to his custom portrait work, Adam is also known for his Hands of Music series of Bluegrass and Americana musicians.


Gold Mountain Gallery also features custom furniture, fine rugs, stunning local photographs, custom jewelry and interior design.

Lustre Gallery will host an artist reception with Telluride’s own Dalen Stevens.  Dalen is a talented ceramist and musician who pours heart and soul into his artistic passions.  The creation of a single porcelain vase or platter is a multi-year endeavor as Dalen mixes his own porcelain, working it as it seasons throughout the year.  Dalen specializes in large thrown works that are hand cut and decorated.  After a multitude of firings, Dalen’s creations explode with color and the unique detailing of his hand mixed crystalline glazes.  With muscularity, finesse and music, Dalen brings sand to life.

Mélange: Red is the color of energy, passion and action. Featured in our Red Art Walk are the Panoply Project, from Durango, CO - a wide ranging and impressive array of materials, special dress and equipment. Also featured are Jill Rickers' metal hearts, paintings by Veneta Nikolova and prints by Kellie Day.

Featured Artist: Gregory Packard


Featured Impressionist painter Gregory Packard.  Largely self-taught, Gregory wishes "to carry on the conversation began by Monet, as there is still much to be said".  Well versed in both French and Russian Impressionist styles, he often practices the broken-color method (developed by Monet) in his vibrant and elegant paintings.  His work was on the cover of Southwest Art Magazine in May 2013, the subject of a featured article in a 2012 issue of Southwest Art, and is collected internationally.  Gregory lives in Montrose with his wife and children.  Meet the artist, enjoy his paintings, and join us for wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Chimera: 2D/3D, an exhibit by Amy Levek


Amy Levek manipulates two-dimensional photographs into sculptural forms, by utilizing a variety of techniques and materials.  Amy prints the photos on a variety of fabrics, like cotton and silk organza, and layers translucent images and materials to achieve different effects. Some of the images are sewn onto aluminum creating sculptural pieces from bending and stitching the materials.

Introducing works by Scott Rhea and Bart Forbes. These established artists are the newest additions to the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art. Photographer Rhea is known for his underwater dream-scapes. Forbes, gifted painter–illustrator who has gained great respect over a 45-year period, is well known for his loose painterly, yet realistic style of work.

Featured Artist: Chanelle Hicks


Chanelle Hicks grew up in an incredibly dull city in Arizona, and therefore spent most of her time in an imaginary world of her own making. In a somewhat futile attempt to socialize with real people, Chanelle uses symbolism to convey her thoughts and feeling about this mundane world, as well as her personal struggles with it, to others. Chanelle Hicks currently lives in Telluride, CO creating Contemporary Fantasy and Children's Illustrative works. She mainly works with acrylic and oil paint to convey the irony and wonder of the world inside her imagination.
