Ski Film Kick Off Winter Season and Feature Local Talent

 For Immediate Release:

Gus Kenworthy and local filmmakers Ben Knight and Travis Rummel serve a quick-fix for the snow-starved this Friday, at the Sheridan Opera House

Telluride, Colorado (November 2, 2012) - Travis Julia Presents will kick off the unofficial start of the ski season with two screenings of "Unicorn Sashimi," and "Superheroes of Stoke," featuring local Gus Kenworthy, at the Sheridan Opera House on Friday, November 9.

Matchstick Productions "Superheroes of Stoke," features an all-star cast of heroes including Kenworthy, who, raised in Telluride, got his start with the local mogul program and is now a household name in the freeskiing world.

"Superheroes of Stoke," offers a retrospective of two decades of archived material, juxtaposed by contemporary footage of the cutting-edge of what is possible on skis, to demonstrate the evolution of the sport, honor the stars of freeskiing and celebrate the 20th anniversary of Matchstick Productions--the most award-winning ski company in history.

Both show times include free ski swag from sponsors, Bootdoctors and Paragon Outdoors and feature a special screening of "Unicorn Sashimi," a ski short by local filmmakers Ben Knight and Travis Rummel, of Soul Felt Media.

"Unicorn Sashimi," documents the search for a wild unicorn in Hokkaido, Japan. Spoiler alert: they only find bottomless snow. The short, released earlier this year, was recently named "Best Ski Film," at the Boulder Adventure Film Festival.

The first ski films shown in November at the Sheridan Opera House are a Telluride tradition and mark the unofficial start of the highly anticipated ski season. Both shows are general admission and open to all ages.

Show times are at 6p.m. and 8:30p.m. Doors open a half hour before show time. Tickets are $15 and available A portion of the proceeds benefit Telluride EcoAction Partners.
