Ride The Rockies Street Party to Showcase Telluride

Seeking Non-Profit to Manage Entertainment as Fundraising Opportunity

Cyclists from Colorado and beyond will be visiting the box canyon in early June when Ride The Rockies kicks-off its 28th annual tour in Telluride on June 9.  The event will bring an estimated 3,000 – 3,500 people to the destination, and generate an estimated $250,000 in revenue for the community.  Each year, Ride The Rockies includes a variety of Colorado towns on a six- to seven-day tour that has become extremely popular among cycling enthusiasts; approximately 4,000 applications are received annually, and 2,000 riders are randomly selected.  Part of the allure that draws cyclists to the tour is the sense of community that the tour creates, complete with events that showcase each host town.  Telluride will welcome cyclists with a street party on Saturday, June 8.

The street party will be open to the public and run from 1 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Colorado Avenue, between Aspen Street and Fir Street.  The event will include live entertainment, a beer garden and food vendors. Ride The Rockies participants will walk to the party after they register at the race headquarters located at the Telluride High School.

The Ride The Rockies Local Organizing Committee is seeking a local non-profit to manage the entertainment portion of the Ride The Rockies street party as a fundraising opportunity.  The selected non-profit will be responsible for managing all aspects of the beer garden, coordinating entertainment, creating a theme and providing security for the event.  In return, the selected non-profit will receive a stipend for entertainment costs from Ride The Rockies, all profits from beer/liquor sales and the opportunity to promote their organization through signage and advertising.

“The street party is a wonderful way for a local non-profit to partner its organization with an iconic Colorado event, generate overall awareness and raise funds for their cause,” said Michael Martelon, President and CEO of the Telluride Tourism Board.

A Request for Qualifications is available at and includes event details and application requirements.  Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 25.  The Ride The Rockies Local Organizing Committee will make a final selection by Friday, March 29, 2013.
