Skiing? Sure that’s what the majority do here in winter. But schussing is just the beginning of the adventures one can have in Telluride, including ice climbing on frozen waterfalls, winter fly fishing, dog sledding and hang gliding. Of course, one doesn’t have to go out in the cold to enjoy this laid-back, Old West hamlet. The shopping is primo, thanks to a ban on chains that has allowed unique, locally owned stores to flourish. They include the Alpen Schatz boutique (lederhosen, anyone?) and the furniture store East Meets West.
