Telluride Painting School | Painting from Observation with Ron Milewicz

Monday – Friday for two weeks, October 31 – November 11 | 9am – 1pm | $1,145 Includes 24-hour access to the painting studio between class sessions, model fees, easels/gatorboards, and general studio supplies. (Students need to supply required materials on their own.) In this two-week intensive course, artist Ron Milewicz will guide students as they capture the human form with oil paints, working from a live model. Students will learn how working from observation can be an act of deep creative invention, where color, light and movement are used as metaphors for the physical and emotional experience of life. Students will engage in a process of truly ‘seeing’ that involves both rational analysis and an opening up to an intuitive understanding of the motif, and each will develop a unique and intelligent pictorial response to the image as it takes its place on the canvas. Milewicz will emphasize the relationship between color and light, and will teach students how to determine the tone, scale, rhythm, measure, shape and movement of their subject, in order to yield images that integrate structure with expression. This course will begin with a casual meet and greet with the instructor and students on the evening of Sunday, October 30th. Students will be able to set up their materials on Sunday evening in preparation for Monday’s (October 31st) 9am start. Ron Milewicz was born in 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. He studied art history at Cornell University (1979-83), received a Master’s degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture (1983-86), and attended the New York Studio School (1990-1994), where he currently teaches. He lives and works in Queens, New York.
