ROMEO & JULIET Telluride Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park
This summer Telluride Theatre takes Shakespeare’s tragic love story of Romeo & Juliet to the gritty conflicted world of 1980’s New York City. In this world, the grudge between the Capulets and the Montagues runs deeper than blood. It is a war between an uptown world of Reagan Era politics, yuppie money and financial power, and the explosive movement of street art, music and gangs on the Lower East Side. At it’s core, Romeo & Juliet is a play as much about the freedom and impulsiveness of being young, as it is about the crushing weight of family expectations and a one-size-fits-all-world where no one fits. It’s a story where even legacy isn’t forever, and love always has a price.
