Bear Creek Herb Walk & Medicinal Salve Workshop with Melanie Kent
Saturday, August 20 | 9am-2pm | $75 tuition & materials Identify and collect some of Telluride’s edible and medicinal plants. Then make your own medicinal salve using regionally harvested arnica. Under the expertise of certified clinical herbalist Melanie Kent, students will take a walk up Bear Creek to look for useful plants. Along with the plants’ medicinal and culinary uses, Melanie will discuss proper identification, harvesting and preservation techniques. Students will then return to the Ah Haa School to create a medicinal salve using previously wildcrafted arnica leaves and flowers. Students will leave with their own salve and the tools to identify, harvest and craft their own herb-infused salves. Students should wear good walking shoes, sunscreen and bug repellent. Students should wear layers and a bring a lunch or snack. Ophir resident Melanie Kent is a certified clinical herbologist and graduate of Rocky Mountain Center of Botanical Studies. In 2008, she participated in a 500-hour herbal certificate program, leading herb walks and treks for kids and adults of all ages. Melanie is also an uber athlete, musician, mom, and co-owns Dig It landscaping company.
