Beginning with a basic rectangle and yarn of your own choosing, you will be encouraged to think outside the box and develop your own pattern. We’ll explore gauge/needle size, stitch patterns, color and sizing to come up with an original design for a scarf, shawl, sweater or whatever you like. There will be lots of finished items on hand for inspiration but bring along your own, too, if you want. The first part of the class will be devoted to instruction and the second part will focus on working independently with one-on-one help from the instructor, as needed. Students should have good basic knitting skills. Students should bring: • Yarn(s) of your own choosing; at least one scein/ball and not too fine. (Some yarn will be available for purchase). • Corresponding needles (in a range of sizes, if possible) • Tape measure • Calculator • Notebook/sketchbook • Pencils and eraser • Scissors • Any items for inspiration—photos from magazines, books, etc. and/or finished items
