Exploring Phenomenal Women with Julie Cummings at Arroyo’s
Front Range poet Julie Cummings will be the featured guest performer at the regular first-Tuesday-of-the-month meeting of the Talking Gourds Poetry Club. Hosted at Arroyo’s Telluride on Tuesday, March 5th, at 6 p.m., the informal gathering will focus on the theme of Phenomenal Women. Cummings lives and loves in Conifer. A middle school educator, she’s president of Columbine Poets and secretary of the Mile High Blues Society. She hosts a poetry performance and open mike series on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, as well as an annual Poetry Festival in August, at Ziggie’s – Colorado’s oldest blues bar (since 1964) -- in Northwest Denver on 38th Avenue between Yates and Xavier streets. Club members and the general public are invited to share poetry news, original poetry, and favorite poems by Phenomenal Women during the Club’s Gourd Circle sharing following Julie’s performance. So far this year Talking Gourds hosts Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and Art Goodtimes have cast the Club’s lyric eyes on Rumi, Lenore Kandel, Pablo Neruda and Sappho. Julie will be our first guest performer of 2013. Talking Gourds Poetry Club is a joint venture of the Telluride Institute, Wilkinson Library, Between the Covers Bookstore, and San Miguel County poets. Members meet monthly, on first Tuesday evenings, at Arroyo’s Fine Art Gallery & Wine Bar at 220 E. Colorado Ave., 970.239.2006, beginning at 6 p.m.
