Avalanche Awareness: Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6PM

Snow avalanches have accounted for 264 deaths in the San Juan Mountains between 1874 and 1991. Although most of these accidents occurred during the early boom days of mining, it is all too common that an unwary skier loses his or her life in the steep terrain of the San Juan Mountains. Join Josh Baird from the San Juan Field School for a free discussion and presentation on avalanche awareness. Learn about the dangers of the area and what you can do to be more prepared. His presentation is designed to encourage avalanche safety and awareness about our surrounding mountains. Refreshments will be served.
