The Adventure Rock Bouldering Competition Series, a competition that tests ones skills and limits, returns to Mountain Village for the fourth year. The series begins Wednesday, June 15 and will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Conference Center Plaza. There will be a men and women’s division and a children’s under-12 division with prizes awarded to first, second and third place winners.
“Local hardman Andy Cook, who runs the Horizon Climbing program, will set the routes for the first competition,” said event organizer Dave Bangert. “He can set some wicked problems, but I’m sure there will be routes for all abilities. Aside from competitors, the town also encourages specters to participate in the series as it provides a general good time with music and bouldering. And as always, there will be a little something for every kid who competes.”
The Competition Series will continue throughout the summer months – June 15, July 13, August 3, and August 24 for finals. At that event, the winner in each category with the most points earned throughout the series will be awarded a grand prize. Prize sponsors include BootDoctors and Dakine. Novice and expert climbers are encouraged to register the day of the event. Competitors will be allowed to climb as many problems in the two-hour period.
The Town of Mountain Village installed the Adventure Rock eight years ago with funding from various entities. It is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the competition and Adventure Rock, please contact the town’s Recreation Department at (970) 369-8215.
