SAF Presents: Bob Schneider in Concert
The Sheridan Arts Foundation's Wild West Fest presents a kick off concert with alternative country artist Bob Schneider. Schneider, who has been in the music industry since the early 1990s, is well known for his freedom of drawing from rock, country, blues, pop and funk. An Austin based musician, Schneider has produced 11 albums including his most recent album A Perfect Day (released April 19, 2011). A Perfect Day is 12 tracks of easy grooving; soulful melodies that sound like sunshine and remind you of cruising on a lake, which is exactly what inspired the album to begin with. However, typical of Schneider, elements of darkness seep into the bouncy pop, relentless brassy funk and good-humored, loose limbed boogie numbers.
Scheneider has contributed songs to a variety of movies including Miss Congeniality, Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and to the TV series Men in Trees. His whopping 24 Austin Music Awards range from Musician, Male Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year, to Best Bluegrass Band. This in itself is a testament to his refusal to be hemmed in by genre classifications.
Bob Schneider will perform a solo acoustic concert in the seated historic Sheridan Opera House on Sunday, June 5th at 8pm. Tickets are $28 for prime seats and $23 for standard seats. All proceeds of this show benefit the Wild West Fest mentorship program - inspiring inner-city, Native American and regional youth since 1991.
