TTB Presents: Children's Lecture on the Sun (NASA Scientist's Presentation)
The Telluride Tourism Board is proud to welcome nearly 350 international scientists and researchers arriving from the United States, Russia, China, Japan and throughout Europe to speak at The Palm Theatre on March 31, 2011 at 1 p.m.
The lecture is open to the public but will be put on for Telluride Elementary School students. Students will learn about the sun and discuss how scientists are able to study our nearest star as well as see spectacular movies of solar activity. Dr. Holly Gilbert, the Associates Director for Science for the Heliophysics Science Division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center will be making the presentation and will introduce space weather, which involves understanding how the activity on the sun affects us here on earth.
Dr. Goddard is in town with The Solar Orbiter program co-sponsored by NASA and the Southwest Research Institute. This year's meeting makes the forth gathering of this group who will gather to continue discussions of the 2017 launch of the joint ESA-NASA Solar Orbiter mission. The group will spend five days discussing the progress made throughout the last year.
