Marco Benevento Trio
Post Phish Show
Marco Benevento Trio will perform three special shows at Telluride’s Fly Me to the Moon Saloon August 8, 9 and 10. These performances are special for a number of reasons. Marco has a long history with Telluride and the Fly Me to the Moon, dating back to 2001 when he played the Telluride Jazz Festival with his then-new band, the Benevento / Russo Duo. That show was their first outside of New York City. Since then, Marco has been a regular on the Telluride music scene, playing now-legendary, late-night shows and collaborating at the Moon with the likes of Medeski, Martin & Wood, Skerik and many others.
Marco’s history also follows the history of another band playing in Telluride on August 9 and 10—Phish. After making their first journey west in the late '80s, Phish found themselves playing the same stage at Fly Me to the Moon as Marco. And that's not the end of the story: Benevento and his Duo partner Joe Russo went on to form two bands with members of Phish, one a trio with Marco, Joe and Phish bassist Mike Gordon and another, G.R.A.B., with Marco, Joe, Gordon and Trey Anastasio. G.R.A.B. was one of the primary touring outfits for Trey and Mike during their hiatus from Phish, appearing at Bonnaroo and touring nationwide. Most recently, Phish drummer Jon Fishman toured as the drummer for the Marco Benevento Trio.
The Marco Benevento Trio goes late on Monday and Tuesday nights with the shows scheduled to run until 3:30 a.m. The Fly Me to the Moon has a limited capacity: Only 250 tickets per show will be sold.
