Silverton Powdercats
Silverton Powdercats takes skiers and snowboarders on guided snowcat tours in the San Juan mountains. Silverton Powdercats is Located ten minutes from Silverton Colorado on top of Molas pass. Drive time is approximately a hour and a half from Telluride, it is Telluride’s closest catskiing operation. Skiers and Snowboarders will be treated to a vast piece of wilderness where only their tracks will be left. A trip with the Silverton Powdercats will truly make a winter adventure complete. Guides, lunch and avalanche beacons are provided. Riders should be strong intermediate and be ready to go out for the whole day.

Make a day of it! There are two routes you can take depending on weather. If there is a lot of snow check the conditions of Red Mountain Pass, you may have to take RT 145 South to Durango, then drive north on RT 550 to Molas Pass which takes about 2.5 hours. On a clear day you can drive via Ouray heading south on Red Mountain Pass (RT 550) through Silverton to Molas Pass which takes about 1.5 hours. Leave Telluride around 6am if driving through Durango and 7am if driving through Ouray on Red Mountain Pass. You want to allow for enough time to be at Silverton Powdercats location on Molas Pass (just south of Silverton) by the 9am meet time. After your full day of snowcat skiing drive back through Ouray and stop at Ouray or Orvis Hot Springs to relax. Then have dinner at True Grit in Ridgway (named after the John Wayne movie filmed in Ridgway) before heading back to Telluride.
