Working out in the indoors: Telluride Gym Scene

Okay, now that we have that out of the way (what a sick video)…

Are you craving exercise? With all the hiking, biking, running, and walking options in Telluride during the summer months, it is hard not to miss the exercise. Check out one of these local gyms to get your sweat on.

8750 ALT, located at 220 E. Colorado Avenue #701, is one of Telluride’s gyms that offers 24 hour access to the facilities for members. In addition to a wide range of cardio machines and other exercise equipment, 8750 ALT offers personal training by Nicole Stone-Lankes and Balanced Physical Therapy by Derek Touhy and Laura Homer. They work with their members to create routines and progressions to help maintain motivation and have cardiovascular races that help members stay on track with their goals, all while surrounding members with a positive and encouraging environment. 8750 ALT also offers equipment checkout for their members. Rentals on townies, bikes, joggers, and other sports related equipment are available for members who want to move outside of the gym and explore the glorious surroundings of Telluride.

Membership rates are as follows:

  • 12 months: $1500
  • 6 months: $900
  • 3 months: $475

Gravity Works, located at 205 E. Colorado Avenue, is home to both a climbing gym and a 24 hour fitness center. The climbing gym, which can be rented for special events starting at $100 an hour, has 90 linear feet of climbing, ranging from 10-20 feet tall. Day passes are $6 (with no in/out privileges), 10 day passes are $50, and belay lessons are $25 for up to three people. Helmet, shoes, and harnesses rentals are $5 and for inside climbing gym use only.

Gravity Works’ 24 Hour Fitness Center has Hoist Selectorized equipment, dumbbells ranging from 5-75 pounds, and cardio equipment including treadmills and ellipticals. Day passes and 5 day punch cards are available, however 24 hour access is only available to those with monthly and yearly memberships.

Membership rates are as follows:

  • 12 months: $1200
  • Monthly: $130
  • 5 Day Punch Card: $80
  • Daily: $20

The Peaks Resort and Spa, located at 136 Country Club Drive, has a full fitness center with separate studios for cardio and weights. It offers fitness classes such as yoga, Pilates, spinning, conditioning and stretching, movement classes, and Nordic walks. It also has a climbing wall and swim instruction. Membership benefits include use of all spa facilities including both pools, steam, sauna and Jacuzzis, cardio and weight studios, and private Mens and Ladies’ lounges. Additionally, memberships include signing privileges at the Peaks Resort, discounts on all Spa and Salon services, discounts on all food and beverage outlets, discounts at the Spa Boutique, complimentary fitness classes, and invitations to VIP events.

Individual membership rates are as follows:

  • 12 month: $1,000 initially, then $250 monthly
  • 6 month: $600 initially, then $250 monthly
  • Day Pass: $45

Lastly, the Town of Telluride offers open gym for basketball and soccer at the Telluride High School, located at 721 West Colorado Avenue. Adult basketball takes place on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7:30pm-9:30pm. Adult soccer takes place Thursday nights from 7:30pm-10pm. Both will continue until the end of March.

Membership rates for adult basketball are as follows:

  • Membership: $80
  • Ten Punch Pass: $40
  • Day Pass: $5

Membership rates for adult soccer are as follows:

  • Membership: $40
  • Five Punch Pass: $20
  • Day Pass: $5
