What's Going On This Week?

Matt Pow

We are a happy bunch here in Telluride. Thanks to the most recent storm that left us with 22” in 48 hours, excitement is through the roof! Not only is there fresh powder out on the mountain just waiting for us to make some turns, there are great events going on this week too. On Saturday, the Telluride Aids Benefits hosts its Gala Fashion Show and After Party, so head to the Conference Center and support a great cause while watching an amazing production filled with designer fashions. On Wednesday, Donavon Frankenreiter is live so don’t miss his soulful performance at the Sheridan Opera House. With all of the skiing you’ve gotten in, you’ve probably worked up an appetite, and we have the perfect event for you! Make sure you purchase your ticket for 221’s Wine and Nibbles Pairing Class taking place on Thursday where you’ll learn about the art of wine pairing and get to taste some amazing dishes prepared by Chef Eliza. If you’re legs are tired from all the powder and you’re just looking to sit back, relax and enjoy a good show, then head to the Palm Black Box for Pippin the Musical! This show is a Tony-Award winning musical and tells the story of Pippin, a young prince on his search for meaning and significance. Check out more on each event below!

TAB Gala Fashion Show/After Party: The Gala Fashion Show features local models and international designer fashions in a production that is best described as New York Fashion Week meets Cirque de Soleil. Funds raised support HIV/AIDS education, advocacy, clinical care in Colorado and Africa.

Donavon Frankenreiter Live: It's been five long years since Donavon last graced the Opera House stage. This professional surfer turned rocker enters his second decade of performing and recording music for the masses with his latest album "The Heart." Once considered a protégé of Jack Johnson, he has made a name for himself as impressive songwriter and laid back folk pop artist. Tickets are $35 general admission standing room.

Pippin the Musical: Pippin is a Tony Award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. Bob Fosse, who directed the original Broadway production, also contributed to the libretto. The musical uses the premise of a mysterious performance troupe, led by a Leading Player, to tell the story of Pippin, a young prince on his search for meaning and significance.

221 Wine and Nibbles Pairing Class: Explore the treasures of winter cuisine with Chef Eliza and 221. Chef will demonstrate 12 dishes and Sommelier Ana Bowling will pour 10 wines, harmonizing or juxtaposing the cuisine.  Recipes feature hearty squashes, teas, broths as well as warming meats.  Learn how to naturally stave off colds with fresh citrus and bitter greens.  Ana will demonstrate the art of wine pairing and educate in the regions and varietals of wine.  At the conclusion of the class, take with you all of the recipes, a full tummy and a bevy of new friends.
