What's Going On This Week?
It’s been nice to enjoy a string of bluebird days after so much snow and there are a ton of great events going on this week in Telluride. Young People’s Theater presents its annual high school musical “Footloose” this weekend, so head to the Sheridan Opera house to support the local theater community. Also happening this weekend is the exciting, live performance by Devendra Banhart at Club Red, so head there to dance the night away to beautiful and enchanting music. If you’re looking to be wowed, you’re in luck. Check out Mind Blown at the Madeline where you will laugh, question reality and be part of creating an experience you will not forget. If you’re looking to get in touch with your artistic side, starting this Tuesday you can take part in Literary Burlesque at the Ah Haa School for the Arts. Whether it’s poetry or pose, participants will explore their most essential selves through a series of writings. Check out more on each event below!
YPT Presents “Footloose”: The SAF Young People's Theater presents its annual high school musical "Footloose" Feb. 3, 4 & 6, 2017 (dark on Super Bowl Sunday). Don't miss this classic story based on the musical drama film about the story of an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town in which dancing and rock music have been banned. Tickets for Footloose are $15 for adults and $12 for children 18 and under. BUY IN ADVANCE- TICKETS ARE $1 AT THE DOOR. Doors open at 5:30
Denvendra Banhart @ Club Red: It’s the perfect setting for Devandra Banhart, a Venezuelan American singer-songwriter and visual artist whose music is described as Psychedelic Folk and New Weird America. SPIN magazine said Banhart’s albums offer “ashram-appropriate guitar strums, trippy-hippie tone poetry.” Banhart is a true artist, with beautiful, seductive, and enchanting music.
Mind Blown: Mind Blown is a brand new, truly memorable show available only at the Madeline Hotel. With very limited tickets available to the show, everyone will experience the astonishing magic of Ty Gallenbeck up close. Cost: $25-$50
Weekly live performances are every Saturday, November 26, 2016 – April 8, 2017
Literary Burlesque: Join Telluride’s time-honored tradition of baring it all, but in this class, it begins with words. Whether it’s poetry or prose, participants will explore their most essential selves through a series of writings that reveal, progressively, a little more of who they are. Classes run for four weeks, and include instruction in writing and performance reading. Both men and women are warmly welcomed.
